QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY
Therapy can be overwhelming and anxiety provoking due to the uncertainty regarding the process and being expected to share your heart with a stranger. I understand and appreciate these concerns that is why we have included common questions about therapy and answers based upon our experience over the years.
What will therapy be like?
You may feel in the dark when seeking a therapist and not understand the theoretical approach that is being used. During the first session you can ask the therapist what type of therapy he/ she utilises and how this can help you in your recovery. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is structured and usually starts with agenda setting which sets the structure for treatment and this is created in a collaborative way. You can add a question or concern to the agenda and it will usually entail reviewing the week, reviewing the homework and introducing a psychological strategy such as a behavioural experiment, activity scheduling or cognitive restructuring of unhelpful beliefs.
